The Big Myth

The Big Myth

For many people, their first, or most memorable encounter with Information Products, are products containing information about Making Money, Internet Marketing (which often means some variation of Making Money) or Home Business (also often meaning Making Money).

Do not assume that all Information Products are about Making Money. This is most definitely not the case.

Despite what some people might say, not all Information Products are about Making Money. One reason that some people think that they are, is that even though they may have seen, read, or even bought, Information Products on other topics, but for whatever reason don't mentally classify them as an "Information Product".

Making Money is an obvious topic, a popular category (just like in it is in offline Books), and one of with a clear customer appeal (benefit = potential to make more money), but it could also be:
  • Extremely Competitive
  • Difficult To Get Started With - unless you really do have some unique expertise in this area
  • Difficult To Sell - You may need a really professional looking web site or else potential customers may see your site as a "Get Rich Quick Scam". Minor design or text flaws on your web site that you might get away with, on say a Recipe or Pets Site, will probably be noticed on a Making Money site.
  • High Customer Expectations - You better know the things you write about actually work
  • Easy To Blow Your Credibility - If you can't afford (say) your own domain name, people may not believe you if you say you can help them make a fortune. Likewise if your hit counter shows 5,271, you probably can't expect an Information Product called "1,000,000 Hits To Your Web Site in 30 Days" to sell very well. Actually, if there is this kind of disparity between what you say that you offer, and what you've actually achieved, you probably should be looking back over your work to see if your claims are based in truth and reality.
If you need proof, that Making Money is not the only topic, go and look at my directory of E-Books at EBookJungle.com.
