| How to market and promote your E-Books and your business |
Marketing
After you've created your E-Book, set up your web site and order processing
systems, the biggest issue is how to market your product successfully.
Marketing is absolutely crucial to your success and it is a really the
main area where you should invest on-going time and effort.
Marketing is a big topic - but don't worry -
provided you are open-minded and
prepared to learn and experiment,
you can learn as you go along.
In my opinion,
if you do not have extensive experience of successful Internet marketing,
then it is better to try and learn from people who have succeeded, adapt
their strategies to your own needs, and go from there.
If you want to be successful at Internet marketing, then here are a few
things that you must be prepared to do:
- Be Prepared To Learn
There is always a new technique or a new strategy that somebody else will
have invented. Sometimes applying just one of these strategies can make
a huge difference to your success level.
Also remember, that part of learning is making mistakes. If the first thing
you try doesn't work, or doesn't work as well as you hoped, don't give up!
Be persistent. Part of the learning process is learning from your mistakes.
- Be Prepared To Experiment
Be prepared to experiment with different approaches and techniques.
Successful marketers test each idea, measure the results, and use
the information to guide their future efforts.
If you are looking for a tools which can help you with testing and measurement,
try
AdTrackZ
or
ProLinkz
(both require CGI facilities on your site).
Don't expect everything you try to work first time!
- You're unlikely to succeed for free
One of the most basic mistakes I see again and again is people
who will aren't prepared to spend a dime on marketing. If that's
you - then, in my opinion, you're unlikely to succeed.
Yes there are some great free services on the net, but often
you get what you pay for. Usually a site that offers a free service is
providing it primarily because there's something in it for them - and
not necessarily for you!
While I would not want anybody to spend money that they can not afford,
and neither would I want anybody to waste money - in business it is
normal to expect to have pay for some things - you often can not
get quality products/services/advertising/information for free.
Marketing is a critical element of success of your business.
I urge you to look at each possible item of expenditure in terms
of value for money, whether it helps you achieve your goals, whether
you can afford it, and at any risks involved.
And, bearing all this in mind, if you feel something is
worth having - then be prepared to spend the money to get it.
- Get Started
At the opposite extreme from those who don't spend a dime on marketing,
are those who spend thousands of dollars on training, never apply it,
and just keep looking for the "big secret"
There is no "big secret" - there are just little steps along the
way.
Each technique that you learn and apply, puts you nearer to your objective:
either by helping you be successful, or by teaching you what doesn't work for you.
On the other hand,
and lots of people do this,
if you
put yourself in a situation where you try to "know everything"
before you do anything, then you'll never even get started.
Marketing Courses
There are some great marketing courses on the Internet, there are undoubtedly also some
lemons.
One of the better established courses, with a good reputation is
Insider Secrets To Marketing,
but you might also like to consider those listed at
MarketingBlast.com or
or
EBookJungle.com.
Marketing Strategies
In order to be successful with marketing there are many strategies that can work.
Here are some ideas to get you started:
- Ezines
Promote your site in other people's Ezines. You can do this for free by writing articles:
many ezines, in return for using your article, will also include your resource box or bio
(containing a small advert for your business).
You can find a free guide to email marketing at
EzineBlast.com,
or look over the items at
EBookJungle.com.
- Joint Ventures
Set up joint ventures with other sites or business. In returning for promoting your products
to their audience/customers, you pay them commission - or vice-versa.
- Pay-Per-Click Search Engines
Advertise your site on pay-per-click search engines.
You can get visitors very cheapily - and you pretty much know they are people who
are interested in your topic - because they just did a search on it.
Check out SearchEngineRocket.com - Pay Per Click
or the
pay per click resources at MarketingBlast.com.
- Search Engines
It's still posssible to get lots of traffic from free search engine
listings - if you
know how.
A popular program for optimizing a web site for high search engine ranking (coming near the top of the results)
is WebPosition,
but you can find more search engine resources at
MarketingBlast.com
and
Hits4me.com.
- Press Releases and News
Another way to promote your site is to get your business/name/product in
the news. You can find a guide to this at
PressBlast.com.
- Other Ideas
Of course there are many other ways to promote your site too!
Go here for

The Most Important Point
I can summarize the most important tip on this page in just one word: testing.
- Whichever marketing approaches you use, remember always test - which means try
different approaches (preferably just a little to start) and track the results.
- If you try (for example) ten different marketing ideas and only one of them works for you
- It helps to know which one it was!
- Provided you haven't spent money you can't afford to risk (or something else equally
drastic - that's probably okay as from now on you know what to do and what not to do.
- In future you could try different variations of your most successful strategies. Sometimes
your variation may be worse than the first attempt - but other times you may get better results.
Step by step, over time, you can hopefully improve your marketing techniques iteratively using
this technique.
